In an emotional video Gerard Pique announced his retirement from professional football. After more than 15 years in the elite of European sport, the Spanish defender will hang up his boots after the game between Barcelona and Almería on Saturday, November 5 at the Spotify Camp Nou.
This news would have surprised not only the football fans and the Blaugrana supporters, but also the players of the Culé squad and the Catalan directors. According to José Álvarez of El Chiringuito, the defender I wouldn’t have told anyone this decision in advance.
Therefore, those in charge of Barcelona assume that Piqué will be awarded a year and a half of his remaining contract; namely, 50 million euros. This is because they have not negotiated a possible settlement based on this landmark decision.
