The Montreal group is talking to the NBA about an expansion team

Adam Silver confirms a Montreal group is in talks with the NBA about acquiring an NBA expansion team.

The commissioner confirmed the information during an interview on the sidelines of the duel between the Celtics and the Knicks.

When asked about a possible expansion into the NBA, Silver said the league would explore the option after renewing television rights.

He named several American cities as possible travel destinations, but also Mexico City, Vancouver and Montreal. Silver believes metropolitan Quebec could be a viable market for the NBA.

The commissioner also added that the NBA is in discussions with a group from Montreal that wants to bring the largest professional basketball league to Quebec.
