The most anticipated films of this year

2024 promises to be a year with a lot of entertainment in the cinema, but also on various streaming platforms. The next 12 months should delight fans of the seventh art with a variety of new projects and stories.

From upcoming installments of popular franchises like Ghostbusters, Kung Fu Panda, Despicable Me, Venom, Godzilla and Kong, Planet of the Apes and Deadpool to new horror and science fiction offerings like Alien: Romulus, A Quiet Place: Day One and Saw XI. From original films like Civil War and Mickey 17 to the long-awaited conclusion to the Miles Morales trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-verse.

The new year will also bring us new films from filmmakers like Dennis Villeneuve, Luca Guadagnino, Bong Joon-ho, Alex Garland, Ridley Scott, Robert Eggers and Barry Jenkins.

Madam Web

The fourth installment of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) follows Cassandra Webb, who is forced to confront her past while trying to survive alongside three young women with bright futures who are being hunted by a deadly adversary. (14th of February)

Dune: Part Two

In the second part of the 2021 film, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) continues his journey, accompanied by Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen, as he seeks revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family and tries to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict. (1st March)

Kung Fu Panda 4

In the fourth installment of the animated series, Po, who becomes the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace, searches for his successor as the new Dragon Warrior while battling a new enemy called “The Chameleon.” (March 29)

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

In the sequel to Afterlife (2021) and the fifth installment in the series, experienced Ghostbusters join their new recruits to save the world in New York City from a powerful and scary enemy. (March 29)

Mickey 17

Science fiction film from director Bong Joon-ho (“Parasite”) that tells the story of the “expendable” Mickey 17, who is sent as an expendable employee on a human expedition to colonize the frozen world of Niflheim. The main roles are played by Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo. (March 29)

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

The sequel to Godzilla vs. In Kong (2021), the seventh installment of the MonsterVerse, Godzilla and Kong work together against an undiscovered threat to the Hollow Earth and the surface. (12. April)

Rebel Moon – Part Two – The Scargiver

In director Zack Snyder's science fiction film, which serves as the second installment of Part One: A Child of Fire, the residents of Veldt prepare for the return of the Empire, which turns into a battle for the fate of the planetoid . (April 19th)

Civil War

Alex Garland's new film is set in the near future and follows a team of journalists as they travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation. (26th of April)

Starring Zendaya, this sports-romance comedy follows a Grand Slam tennis champion who signs up for a Challenger event against his wife's ex-lover and coach. (26th of April)

The Guy case

In this action comedy, veteran stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is recruited again when the star of a mega-budget studio film directed by his ex (Emily Blunt) goes missing. (May 3)

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

The fourth installment in the modern-day “Planet of the Apes” series is set 300 years after the events of “Planet of the Apes: War” (2017) and follows a young ape as he embarks on a journey that will lead him to discover everything to ask question. that they taught him about the past and about making decisions that will determine the future of apes and humans. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

The fifth part of the franchise tells the origin story of the war renegade Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) before the events of Mad Max Fury Road (2017). (May 24)

The sequel to the original 2015 film follows young Riley as she finds new feelings in her youth. (14th June)

A Quiet Place: Day One

The third part of the A Quiet Place series acts as a prequel to the events of the first two films. (June 28th)

Mufasa: The Lion King

This prequel to the original live-action film The Lion King (2019) follows the rise of one of the Pride Lands' greatest kings, Mufasa. (5th July)

Twister

Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, this sequel to the original 1996 film follows two storm chasers who risk their lives to test an experimental weather warning system. (July 19).

Deadpool 3

In the third Deadpool film and the 34th installment in the Marvel Studios cinematic universe, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) teams up with the Merc with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) on an adventure with big consequences. (July 26)

Based on the video game series, this sci-fi action-comedy film is set on the fictional abandoned planet Pandora, where people search for a mysterious relic. (August 9)

Alien: Romulus

Set during the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), this new horror and science fiction film sees a group of young people from a distant world confront the most terrifying life form in the universe. (August 16)

Kraven the Hunter

The fifth part of Sony's Spider-Man universe (SSU) tells the story of Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who wants to prove that he is the best hunter in the world. (August 30)

Beetlejuice 2

Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara return alongside director Tim Burton for this sequel to the original 1988 film. Actors Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe are also part of the cast. (September 6th)

Transformers One

Animated prequel that serves as an origin story set on Cybertron, home of the Autobots and Decepticons, and focuses on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. (13.september)

Saw XI

The 11th part of the successful horror series. (September 27th)

Joker: Folie à Deux

Musical thriller that serves as a sequel to the original 2019 film and includes the return of Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and the welcome of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. (4th of October)

Poison 3

The third film in the Venom series and sixth installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) offers a new adventure for Eddie Brock and Venom. (November 8th)

Gladiator 2

Ridley Scott returns to direct the sequel to his original film Gladiator (2000) with the help of actors Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal. (22nd of November)

Evil

Fantasy musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo that tells the story of how a green-skinned woman, tricked by the Wizard of Oz, becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. (November 27th)

Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

Animated fantasy film set 261 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and telling the story of Helm Hammerhand, a legendary king of Rohan who must defend himself against an army of Dunlendings and the namesake of Helm's Deep becomes a fortress. (13th December)

The Karate Kid

Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) join forces on screen to bring us a new Karate Kid film. (13th December)

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

The third installment in the Sonic The Hedgehog series brings back Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, James Mardsen and Colleen O'Shaughnessey. (20th of December)

Nosferatu

This remake of the original 1922 film tells the dark tale of obsession between a tormented young woman and the terrifying vampire who is in love with her and causes unspeakable horror. The film is directed by Robert Eggers and stars Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult and Willem Dafoe. (25 December)

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

The direct sequel to the films “Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) and “Across the Spider-Verse” (2023) follows Gwen Stacy as she leads the newly formed Spider-Gang in a race against the Spider-Society led by Miguel O'Hara leads a mission to find Miles Morales, trapped in the home dimension of the spider that bit him, along with an alternate version of himself as the Prowler, while Spot begins his deadly attack on his dimension with far-reaching multiversal consequences.
