William Bonner is one of Globo’s oldest and most respected journalists. He has covered numerous important events over the years of his career, but he has repeatedly revealed that one of the most powerful events of his career was the TAM accident that occurred on July 17, 2007.

A tragedy that to this day leaves deep scars on everyone, especially on the relatives of the dead and the teams that accompanied the case, but also on William Bonner, who was directly involved and witnessed everything firsthand.

At that time, an airline plane crashed into a building and hundreds of people died. At the time, Platin was covering the Pan American Games and everything had to be interrupted for the shift to break the tragic news.
At the moment when it all happened, William Bonner was still in the Jornal Nacional studios and started reporting from there:

The famous Globo didn’t spare the “A Grande Família” actress, nailing her as boring and decreing: “Never again”
Virginia Fonseca made the decision not to cry next to Zé Felipe and the reason is discovered: ‘Never again’
“It is 19:07 and the TAM hangar at Congonhas airport is on fire. There you have the pictures. The first information is that this fire would have started on a company plane, which would have been in the hangar. He began
The accident took on unimaginable proportions.
Then he called the reporter Fernando Rochewho confirmed the sad news that there were hundreds of people on the plane and also spoke about the external situation: “The flames are very high and the traffic is completely congested” He has confirmed
Jornal Nacional, in a hurry, had to change everything that was already on the agenda and contrary to what was planned, Fatima Bernardes barely made it on air to cover the games. In an interview with “Memória Globo”William Bonner stated:
“The newspaper was practically completely live: I asked the reporters questions that sometimes had no answer, at that moment something was going on. It felt like a radio because of the agility, it was one of the most heroic things we’ve ever done.”

Including another wellknown name in Globo’s journalism, Rodrigo Bocardi, was the first news anchor to go to Congonhas to bring exclusive images of the event. The following day, Fátima Bernardes returned to the Jornal Nacional bench, while William Bonner went to the São Paulo studios.
He ordered several releases of the messages directly from the scene of the accident and even provided some information about the investigation: “Jornal Nacional kicks off with an exclusive and serious revelation” Said William Bonner

So much so that Globo News revealed that the company’s thenpresident had assumed the plane had a problem with one of the turbines, which would have been one of the main reasons for this unfortunate tragedy:
“I opened JN and said the back was ‘pinned’ and what that meant. Until then, much of the track was blamed, then another hypothesis for the accident came up. Today we see that it was apparently a conglomeration of things: the runway too short, too wet, no grooves, the plane didn’t reverse, etc. All wrong.” remembers William Bonner
That duty was so well performed and of such unique magnitude that Jornal Nacional was a 2008 Emmy finalist in the News category.
