“The Mother”: Jennifer Lopez as Shock Killer

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Netflix offers an action film in which Jennifer Lopez transforms into a fighter of impressive efficiency.

A former soldier (Jennifer Lopez, whose character is never named) tries to escape her pursuers in a burning house. Despite being pregnant, she manages to cause significant damage to her attackers until Adrian Lovell (Joseph Fiennes) attempts to kill her by stabbing her in the abdomen. Now relentlessly hunted, this mother has no choice but to abandon her daughter Zoe (Lucy Paez) and seek refuge in the woods with the help of a friend (Paul Raci).

But of course, Lovell is quick to pursue Zoe, who will rescue her mother from her kidnappers, and the mother-daughter duo will then find refuge in the woods… until their final confrontation with the villain – Lovell also points out his men pointed out that JLo’s character was “worth 100 snipers,” giving a sense of the violence and action.

Neither the screenplay by Misha Green, Andrea Berloff and Peter Craig nor the direction by Niki Caro claim to reinvent the wheel. Law enforcement, assassination and violence are therefore on the menu of this effective, if unimaginative, The Mother. Knowing that the ending will only be happy, a few twists allow the viewer to remain seated in front of their screen and learn what happens next.

The Mother is available on Netflix from Friday, May 12.
