Quentin Tarantino He prepares the ground for his last work. The legendary director of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood would indeed take decisive steps towards what will be his tenth film.
According to some sources, Tarantino would have put the finishing touches on the script by now and would be ready to start filming the film next fall. Although the details are still top secret, it has been revealed what the title of the film should be The Film Critic. In addition to the title, the very first details about the story came to light. It appears that this one will be set in Los Angeles in the late ’70s and, at its core, should have a female lead.
The story will most likely focus on the character Pauline Kael, one of the most important and influential film critics of all time. Kael, who died in 2001, was a multifaceted professional who also published essays and novels. Known in the industry for her tempestuous relationships with editors and directors, she landed the position of consultant for Paramount in the late 1970s, a position she accepted at the behest of actor Warren Beatty.
For his part, Quentin Tarantino has never hidden his admiration for Kael. The timing of his critical Note adventure in Paramount also shines match perfectly with the times and places mentioned in The Movie Critic’s script, an element that would make Paulina Kael the number one suspect as the protagonist.
Tarantino has always said he wants to direct 10 films. For now, the legendary director and screenwriter is stuck at nine (considering Kill Bill a unique film) and this month will be struggling to reach 60, the age at which he’s always stated his intention to retire. The director’s new project doesn’t seem to have a studio behind it at this point, however it might be already acquired in the next few hours. The favorite at the moment seems to be Sony Pictures, who previously distributed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019.
We’ll just have to wait for more news on one of the most anticipated projects of the coming months.
