“I haven’t experienced success in a single day and I think it’s important to talk about it. I’ve been doing this for a long time and have worked hard to get where I am. “I always knew I would be in the music industry,” explains the artist, twice nominated for a Grammy for “Stranger Things,” in an interview with Le Journal.
“I oversee all aspects of music. I also like to remind people that the sexy side is only 25% of my work,” laughs the artist, who attended the same high school as Dave Grohl of the group Foo Fighters in Washington as a teenager.
The perfect song
Based on her experience with the Duffer brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer, the twins behind Stranger Things, whom she describes as creative geniuses), Nora Felder addresses various topics in conferences: respect for the creators’ vision, what she explores in music , what makes a song complete a story, its workings in reading the scenarios to appeal to the characters’ temperaments, negotiating and purchasing the rights to the selected tracks, etc.
“It’s important that the characters live in my head when I’m looking for the music. In the end, when the executive producers decide, my job is to convey my ideas to them so that they make the best decision,” explains the woman who discovered Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God), Kate’s play Bush plays a key role in season 4 of Stranger Things.
“The Duffer brothers told me they were looking for a song that fit Max’s character, that had a nice flourish and was a song that brought hope. We also had a year that we had to respect: 1986. I presented them with several ideas and told them that Kate Bush was the best because she met all the criteria,” says the music lover, who is waiting to resume filming on the last one Season of Stranger Things awaits, now that the writers’ strike is over.
Nora Felder believes in the power of nostalgia in music among older audiences, which, combined with the appeal of newness among younger audiences, creates a connection between generations. This is particularly the case with the music of Stranger Things. People’s affection for the characters portrayed (in these two cases Max and Eddie, with whom admirers grew up) also plays an important role.
The meeting entitled “The Stranger Things Effect” proposed by Nora Felder on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Cinéplex cinema in the Latin Quarter will be presented to the general public and music and television professionals as part of the “M for Montreal” conferences (10 US -Dollar).
