The National Assembly of Angola will discuss the 2024 budget

The first secretary of the parliament, Manuel Lopes Dembo, explained at the end of the conference of group leaders that took place this Thursday under the leadership of the president of the assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, that each group would present their political statements that day.

The executive branch proposes revenue and expenditure for 2024 estimated at 24 trillion kwanzas (about $28,437 million), including a five percent salary increase for public servants.

Regarding the budget balance, a surplus of 0.02 percent is expected, trying to combine internal and external sources of financing.

The PGE project envisages gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 2.84 percent, fundamentally supported by the performance of non-oil sectors, which are expected to grow by 4.6 percent, according to Finance Minister Vera Daves.

It added that crude oil production would fall by about 2.6 percent, including gas production, which was expected to fall by 2.5 percent.

The calculations were based on oil production of one million 60,000 barrels per day and a reference price of $65 per barrel to avoid stress scenarios and ensure relative stability in tax revenues.

However, there are always risks, such as those arising from the geopolitical environment, which could change the price of raw materials, including the price of hydrocarbons, which will affect the execution outlook and the volatility of exchange rates, the owner opined.

Another aspect worth highlighting, according to Vera Daves, is the increase of the Ministry of Agriculture’s budget by 80 percent, which is a strong sign of its commitment to agribusiness and food security.
