Craft Recordings and Rodgers & Hammerstein announced Wednesday that a new super deluxe edition of “The Sound of Music” soundtrack will hit stores on December 1st, featuring well over 40 previously unreleased tracks.
The super deluxe version brings together all the musical elements of the iconic 1965 film for the first time and includes instrumentals for every song as well as 11 never-before-heard alternate recordings, including rare performances from the cast led by Julie Andrews.
For die-hard fans, there is now a definitive $109 box set with four CDs, 1 Blu-Ray audio disc of the entire score and extensive liner notes by preservationist Mike Matessino, available for pre-order now.
“You will hear what you have heard before, famous songs with the mellifluous tones of Dame Julie Andrews leading the way,” Matessino wrote in his essay.
“But the experience has changed beyond what the 1965 soundtrack album offered – with expansions of the songs, a brilliantly arranged undertone and even some segments that were not used in the finished version of the film.”
