A 22-year-old waiter has sparked an outcry on TikTok after admitting a lie he told customers and helping him land a $500 tip.

New York’s Dean Redmond revealed in a post that he was hosting a table of 22 on Christmas Eve and because he was “terrible” at his job, he forgot to place an order for four sandwiches.

Instead of taking the blame, he lied to the table and said the waitress who brought the food slipped on the stairs and was taken to a hospital’s intensive care unit.

The concerned customers reached out to Dean for updates on their condition, and when it came to payment, they left $500 along with a note that read, “Dear employees, please don’t stress! Things happen. We hope she’s doing well! Love Paul & Sue.’

In his TikTok post, Dean says he doesn’t know what to do with the situation, frantically saying, “I’m going to get such bad karma for lying at this table.”

He reveals that he didn’t share the tip with other employees because they would then have found out about his lies.

To date, Dean’s video, which includes the hashtags #restaurantreview #lies #serverproblems, has been viewed more than 21,000 times and some people have slammed him for his dishonesty.

“OMG ura beast! I could think of the lie but never pull it off because I couldn’t deal with them asking me all the questions I don’t have the answers to,” one person said.

Another person wrote: “Imagine the people who [left] Watch one of your videos for these great tips.’

While most people vented their anger at Dean’s actions, some praised him for being a “genius.”

One follower also thanked him for sharing his dilemma, exclaiming, “I love your stories.”

It’s not the first time Dean has opened up about his waitstaff mishaps, and his other TikTok videos detail similar incidents.

In one post, he even talks about the perks of lying to customers when you’re bad at your job but still want big tips.

He describes a specific incident where he had a table full of customers and forgot to place an order for onion soup.

Instead of admitting it, he made his colleague sit down crying, and he told the table that she accidentally spilled the soups all over herself while carrying them and ended up suffering third-degree burns.
