Outside the presidency of the UN Security Council (United Nations), Brazil will continue to act diplomatically to continue action against the conflict between Israel and Hamas. This was the message that President Lula (PT) sent to Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on Tuesday (October 31). The two spoke by phone last night after a council meeting.
To maintain a certain protagonism against the war, Brazil, together with Qatar, will pressure Egypt to open a humanitarian corridor in Rafat. Mauro Vieira will also use the easy dialogue he is having with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to resolve the issue of the 30 Brazilians still in Gaza.
Brazil will also rely on China’s strong influence over countries potentially involved in the conflict, such as Lebanon and Iran. Both countries finance Hamas and Hezbollah in the region.
Mauro Vieira will also continue dialogue with the Israeli authorities to demand a ceasefire or the guarantee of the importation of medicines and fuel into the Gaza Strip.
As the blog showed, Itamaraty assessed Brazil’s time as head of the UN Security Council positively. Read the analysis here.
