The number of trips to Canada is increasing

The relaxation of health measures at the Canadian border on April 25 prompted large numbers of people from all countries to resume international travel in May, even if it remains below pre-pandemic levels.

“In May, the number of international arrivals in Canada continued to increase, but still remained below pre-COVID-19 2019 levels,” Statistics Canada said in a study released Friday.

In the month of May there were almost 12 times more travelers from overseas than in May 2021.

The situation is similar when we look at the number of American travelers who came to Canada, which is 10 times higher this year.

Canadians continued to travel abroad more in May 2022, according to the federal agency.

The number of returnees this year was eight times as high.

But in any case, we remain below the level of 2019, when there were almost 50% more foreign travelers in Canada.

However, a smaller gap can be seen if we look at outbound travel by Canadians, which accounted for two-thirds of travel in 2019 (60.7%).

In June, that gap narrowed further as the country’s airports encountered difficulties due to the large influx of travellers.

That’s according to the leading indicator for international arrivals in Canada for the month of June 2022, which was released on July 11.
