The feature film, a sequel to The Nun (2018), grossed $32.6 million in its first theatrical weekend in the United States and Canada, “a very good start” for such a film, according to analyst David Gross.

This ninth installment in the Conjuring horror film series is set in a monastery in the south of France in the 1950s, where a young nun must face a demonic force.

Second place went to the action film “The Equalizer 3,” starring actor Denzel Washington, which collected $12.1 million in its second weekend in theaters. This third part of the series follows the adventures of a former secret agent who this time comes face to face with the Italian mafia.

Taking the final spot on the podium is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 with $10 million in sales. The American comedy, which tells the story of a family trip to Greece, was written and directed by Nia Vardalos, the actress known for the first two works.

Indian action film Jawan is in fourth place with $6.2 million, a huge success for this Hindi film in the US. Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who is directing the film, also plays the lead role.

And to complete this ranking, Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie with Margot Robbie” grossed $5.9 million in its eighth week, bringing its worldwide total to $1.4 billion since its release, its highest box office gross of the world.
