He was the record holder, the oldest dog in the world: Bobi was 31 years and five months old. According to media reports, the thoroughbred Rafeiro do Alentejo died at home in Portugal. “Although he outlived every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth will never be enough for those who loved him,” wrote Dr. Karen Becker. Bobi lived his entire life with the Costa family in the village of Conqueiros, on the west coast of Portugal, having been born in an annex with three brothers. Typically, dogs of this breed live between 12 and 14 years. Bobi’s brothers also far exceeded their life expectancy.

The owner attributed Bobi’s long life to the “quiet and peaceful environment in which he lives, his human diet and his freedom”.
