The Other Two, Max’s popular sitcom about the absurdity of celebrity culture, will not be returning for a fourth season. Rolling Stone has learned that “the other two creators have decided to end the Max series with season three.”
The unexpected (and rather heartbreaking) ending follows staff complaints about creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, former executive writers of “Saturday Night Live,” throughout production, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Sources involved with the show claimed to THR that the co-creators were the subject of HR grievances regarding their behavior on set and in the writers’ room, including allegations that Kelly verbally abused writers and overworked crew while Schneider facilitated his behavior.
Sources told THR that the showrunners were not allowed on the set pending a formal inquest into the allegations, and that both Kelly and Schneider were allowed to return after being officially cleared of wrongdoing.
“The Other Two” became a cult favorite when it premiered on Comedy Central in 2019. It then moved to HBO Max in 2021, and continued to be followed by Brooke and Cary Dubek (played by Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke) in its third season, which began in May. ), the fame-hungry older siblings of a social media-created teenage pop star. The series turned the entertainment industry on its head while also delving into what celebrity means in 2023.
The cast included Molly Shannon, Josh Segarra, Ken Marino, Case Walker, Wanda Sykes and Brandon Scott Jones.
“It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to the Dubek family after three seasons, but we always knew, both creatively and personally, that we wanted to end their stories here,” Kelly and Schneider said in a joint statement. “And since we literally have no way of humiliating Drew Tarver, what’s the point?”
They added: “We are deeply grateful to everyone (gay people) who watched the show, Max for giving us a second home and life, and to our writers, producers and crew for so much time, talent and passion.” to this show for the last 45 years. And finally a huge thank you to Heléne, Drew, Molly, Case, Wanda, Josh, Brandon and everyone in our brilliant cast (besides Ken) who made this show better than it was meant to be and who we will be too I miss it awful (especially Ken). Long live ChaseDreams. #chasedreams #globsaregay #feet.”
