The Padres stole the show

The Padres stole the show!

When they got their hands on Juan Soto, the San Diego Padres were the envy of everyone…

With Soto and the return of Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres sent a message to all their rivals: they mean business! The New York Yankees also acquired Frankie Montas and Jose Trivino, but the Padres are the most improved team.

Of course, the season is far from over…though the Padres’ hopes of catching the Los Angeles Dodgers are slim.

On the other hand, I’m disappointed in the inaction of the Blue Jays…

I really thought the Jays would react… but no!! shame !

loss of a friend

At every trade show visit to Los Angeles, Vin Scully was always there to greet us and inquire about not only our health but our needs.

Over the years, I’d become friends with the Dodgers’ voice.

His death saddens me and leaves a great void.

Another reminder that we are not forever!

Not only was he very nice, he was honest.

Vin Scully is one of the BIG ones.

If I ever return to the Dodgers press gallery, I’ll look for it… but I won’t find it…

What a shame !

Well done Karl!

Charles Leblanc’s patience was rewarded…

In fact, the 26-year-old Laval youngster made his majors debut with the Miami Marlins, and that first game will stay with him forever…

The third baseman batted three times and scored his first hit, a solid double.

He was also withdrawn twice from three strikes.

Nice course

The infielder was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 33rd round of the June 2013 session and then by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round in 2016 while he was a student at the University of Pittsburgh.

Leblanc played two seasons in college and then six seasons in the minors before getting his chance.

Then, on July 31, Charles hit his first home run against the New York Mets’ Taijuan Walker.

Walter Johnson

There are several ways for pitchers to write their names into baseball history… Walter Johnson saw his name engraved in several sectors, but we often forget that he had a reputation as a Hunter Heads. In fact, between 1907 and 1927, he was the pitcher who hit the most batsmen, 205. Johnson was also the first Kansas player to garner Hall of Fame votes. In the first ballot. Johnson received 83.6% of the vote. Johnson hit 547 at bat, including 94 doubles, 41 trebles and 24 homers.

Brandon Morrow and his pants

On June 19, the Cubs suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs when Justin Wilson was unable to defend a one-run priority in the 9th inning. After the game, manager Joe Maddon stated that his late-game specialist, Brandon Morrow, was unavailable due to a lower back condition. Morrow explained that after returning from his trip abroad, he injured himself while undressing at home. “It’s frustrating not being able to make it to the hill because you hurt yourself taking your pants off… didn’t throw,” Morrow said.

Luis Aparicio

Which Rookie of the Year winner was the only one in major league history to play his entire career at one position, shortstop? Luis Aparicio earned that honor in the 1956 American League and played in all 2,599 games of his career at the position. He also led the league in steals in his first nine seasons. In addition, he was the league leader in this area for five seasons. He also won nine Golden Gloves with two teams, seven with the White Sox, and two with the Orioles.

Young people in sight

June 13 at Yankee Stadium…The Nationals’ Juan Soto and Gleyber Torres were 41 years and 48 days combined, becoming the youngest homers in the same game since Mike Tiernan and Egyptian Healy accomplished the feat on May 19, 1887 had ! Soto slammed two, also becoming the fifth youngest player in major league history to pull off such a feat. The others are:

  • Danny Murphy, cubs (19 years, 35 days), 09/27/1961
  • Mel Ott, Giants (twice – 19 years 77 days; and 19 years 187 days), 5/18/1928 and 9/5/1928

  • Ken Griffey Jr. (twice – 19 years 190 days; and 19 years 226 days), 5/30/1989 and 7/5/1989
  • Juan Soto (19 years, 231 days), 06/13/2018
