Daniel Craig slips into the role of the world-famous private investigator Benoit Blanc in the film Glass Onion: A Tale in Controversy by Rian Johnson, the director of the first – and popular – film At warreleased in 2019.
A resourceful millionaire invites his motley crew of friends to spend a weekend on his private island in Greece to play an elaborate version of the Murder Mysteries game. A game that, as we can easily guess, will turn into a real tragedy: one (or more) murders to be solved.
This is the premise of the film Glass Onion: A Tale at Knives Out, the sequel to the adventures of detective Benoit Blanc, whom we met in the first hit film At Knives Out in 2019.
The lovable detective White
It’s hard not to fall in love with this good-natured but incredibly intelligent detective played by Daniel Craig. The 54-year-old British actor does a tasty job of making us forget his handsome and almost invincible James Bond. No more expensive suits, seduction, British accents and superhuman strength: the white detective is reserved, attentive and prefers to use false naivety to achieve his goals.
We also love this gang of stereotypical but comical characters, made up of a muscular influencer (Dave Bautista) accompanied by his pretty girlfriend (Madelyn Cline), an assistant trying to deal with the damage caused by her famous client, a rather beige politician (Kathryn Hahn), an outdated scientist (Leslie Odom Jr.), an unloved friend of the band (Janelle Monáe) and eccentric billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton).
Glass Onion entertains, makes us laugh and puzzles in a playful way with a straightforward but entertaining storyline. This seems to be the recipe for success after Netflix paid $450 million to acquire the rights to this second and third part.
We chuckle as we quickly realize that every person present has a motive for murdering the victim (as in all good Clue movies), but we still get into this movie that ticks all the boxes of the perfect feature film, the you want to watch during the movie vacation.
