The perpetrator of a triple murder in Mauricie dies in prison

Murderer Sylvain Duquette was serving a life sentence for killing three women in Mauricie when he died at the La Macaza branch in the Laurentians. He died Monday of “apparent natural causes,” the Correctional Service Canada said in a statement.

Sylvain Duquette, who was in his 50s, pleaded guilty to first degree murder and first degree murder and attempted murder against him in July 2018.

The man killed three people during his murderous escape, which took him from Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc to Shawinigan in the Saint-Gérard-des-Laurentides sector.

The man, in his fifties, had specifically attacked his father, his wife and his sister-in-law.

As always when an inmate dies, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) investigates the circumstances of the incident. CSC guidelines require that the coroner be notified, the agency said.

The La Macaza Institution is located in the Laurentians region about 120 miles northwest of Montreal on the edge of Mont-Tremblant International Airport, as we can read on the Correctional Service Canada website. It is a medium-security prison.
