A photo of the last moments of the Russian cruiser Moskva before sinking in the Black Sea has been circulating on the Internet.

Moskva was photographed with a large column of black smoke rising from behind. It can be seen that there was already some tilt to the left, an indication that the ship was about to sink.

The Russian Defense Ministry initially denied the Ukrainian attack and even claimed there was an explosion inside the ship itself. However, the US confirmed that at least two missiles were fired at the ship.

According to a Russian portal, at least 37 people died in the sinking. It is estimated that 500 people were on board and around 100 were injured.

The successful attack on the Russian military ship was counted as a victory for Kyiv. The Moskva was Russia’s most important ship in the Black Sea.

The Moskva began operating in 1983 during Soviet times and from 2015 participated in the Russian intervention in Syria.

The ship gained notoriety at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, when it took part in the attack on the Island of Snakes, when 19 Ukrainian sailors were captured and exchanged for Russian prisoners.
