The night from Saturday April 16 to Sunday April 17 had promised a so-called “pink” full moon, but the expression deceived many. The “Pink Moon” denotes the first full moon in spring. Gold, exactly at the same time of the year, phloxes of pink color bloom in the United States. Hence the expression “pink moon”.

A tinted moon

However, in some locations the Moon may have taken on a particular tint on the night of Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th. This coloring is explained by the filtering of the earth’s atmosphere by the light of the sun, which illuminates the moon.

It is a not uncommon phenomenon that has been observed mainly in Santiago in Chile or even in certain places in France. Some were therefore luckier than others, even when waking up.

Lovers of the stars who were disappointed that evening can perhaps catch up next week. As indicated by the European Space Agency, next Saturday night will be marked by an Earth-observable alignment of the planets Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.
