Pope Francis has accepted the resignation from the post of President of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy proposed by Monsignor Joseph Marino, Titular Archbishop of Natchitoches, Apostolic Nuncio, taking advantage of the opportunity offered by art. 20 of the Regulations for the Pontifical Missions. The article in question states in paragraph 2 that the pontifical representatives have the power to request early retirement before the age of 70. And today Monsignor Marino, born in Birmingham (USA) in 1953, is 70 years old.
The Pontifical Spiritual Academy prepares priests destined for the Holy See’s diplomatic service in the various nunciatures or in the Secretariat of State of the Holy See. Marino was appointed president in October 2019 after completing his diplomatic service in Malaysia, East Timor and Brunei.
