At the end of the Angelus prayer, the Pope announces that he will hold a consistory on September 30 to appoint new cardinals, an expression of the universal Church. Among them the Prefects of the Dicasteries of Bishops, of the Eastern Churches, of the Doctrine of the Faith, two apostolic nuncios. Three Italians, Monsignor Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Patriarch of Jerusalem, Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Eastern Churches and among those over octogenarian Monsignor Agostino Marchetto, Secretary Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.
He had previously invited people to pray for the martyr of Ukraine, but also for peace in the Holy Land. After the recent bloody events, the Pope hopes that the government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority will again speak directly to embark on a real path to peace.
A thought also to the seafarers on the Day of the Sea, “who take care of the waters” and remove the plastic, as “the sailors of San Benedetto del Tronto told me”. Thanks to the faithful who listened to him despite the heat in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope explains the Gospel, which recalls how the great things of God have been hidden from the great – “the arrogant”, as the Pope calls them – and instead revealed to the little ones, capable of being impressed by God like a movie and developing the presence of the Lord in their lives.
