A new invitation to pray for peace in the world. Francis speaks about this before concluding the general audience in St. Peter’s Square, urging everyone to invoke harmony between peoples. In particular, the Pope asks for prayers for Ukraine, where Cardinal Matteo Zuppi’s mission ended yesterday, which he sent to “listen carefully to the Ukrainian authorities on the possibilities of achieving a just peace and to support gestures of humanity , which help to reduce tensions”. as explained in a statement by the Holy See.
Francis also expresses his thoughts on the Eastern European country, which has been at war for more than a year, in the words he addresses to the Polish-speaking faithful, to whom he again recommends persevering “in Christian charity and in support of Ukrainians”. He then ends his greeting to the Italian pilgrims and addresses the faithful of different faiths and denominations. He urges them to join the initiative of the International Catholic Action “One Minute for Peace” for Ukraine tomorrow, June 8th. the Holy Land and the whole world.
Tomorrow at 1 p.m. Azione Cattolica Internazionale proposes that believers of different denominations and religions gather for prayer and dedicate “One Minute for Peace”. We accept this invitation and pray for an end to wars in the world and especially for dear and tormented Ukraine.
The invitation of the International Forum of Catholic Action
It is a “simple initiative”, explains the International Forum of Catholic Action and recommends everyone to spread it “in the family, among friends”, in associations, “in places of study and work”. The suggestion is to “stop for a moment.” “Pray or devote a thought for peace” tomorrow at 1pm in your country, wherever you are.
The initiative was first launched in 2014
“One Minute for Peace” was first launched on June 6, 2014, in support of Pope Francis-sponsored “Peace Prayer” to be held two days later in the Vatican Gardens with then-Israeli President Simon Peres and the President of the Palestinian Authority Maḥmūd ʿAbbās, and which was also attended by the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I. To encourage the prayer initiative, the International Catholic Action Forum has launched the hashtag #unminutoporlapaz on social media and made it available on its platforms. The website offers a range of resources and a small guide to gather and pray, and invites you on June 10 to join a short online prayer meeting “with some friends from conflict countries”.
