The PP is trying to avoid a flight of votes to the right in the face of the Vox offensive at the end of the Galician election campaign | Elections in Galicia 18-F

For a few hours this Thursday evening, Vigo was the capital of the fiercest right wing. Galicia's first city has the socialist mayor with the most votes among all Spaniards – Abel Caballero -, the president of the Community of Madrid, the popular Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal. The penultimate day of the Galician election campaign illustrated the different duel that the PP is waging in its fight to maintain an absolute majority in this final phase. His great opponent is on the left, but the confusion sown after Alberto Núñez Feijóo's team's confession about his contacts with the Catalan independence movement threatens to open up another flank for him on the right.

According to Ayuso, in these elections Galicia is threatened by “the project to dismember Spain organized from La Moncloa”. He defined the BNG “cocktail” as “grassroots communism to appropriate the property and labor of others because they love to live off others; with a dose of terror to incite fear and win easily; well-seasoned with nationalism to build false identities and decide who is a good and a bad Galician; and a few drops of socialism to distribute poverty and moral superiority.

Ana Pontón's party, the Madrid president continued in Vigo, “is not love for Galicia, but hatred of others”, is running in the European elections “on a list led by an ETA member” and “is causing problems”. are invented” with “false divisions” between “the public and the private” or “the rich and the poor” in order to “perpetuate themselves for decades”. If the bloc rules, he predicts a “persecution of the Civil Guard” and the flight of doctors. Galician nationalists, Ayuso warns, “do not like people who make effort” and “cannot stand freedom, openness, joy and miscegenation”: “Everything must be fear.”

Ana Vázquez, a Galician representative in Congress, joined on Wednesday the group of PP leaders who linked the BNG to the ETA due to the relations between Ana Pontón's formation and EH Bildu. Vázquez published a video on social networks in which he appealed to Vox voters: “Your votes will be orphaned and will only serve to support separatism.” It didn't take long for Vox to appear on X (formerly Twitter). He posted a photo of Vázquez talking in Congress with Vice President Yolanda Díaz and EH-Bildu MP Jon Iñarritu with the following text: “Their way of fighting separatism and the left leaves much to be desired.”

Vox was encouraged by the PP's own revelations about Feijó's attempts to gain any support from Junts for his inauguration. Abascal has invented a new name to mock his partner in autonomous communities and city councils: the “cowardly right” is now the “cheater right”. At Vox, according to party sources, they have noticed an increase in polls in recent days, which so far have been almost unanimous in placing them outside the autonomous parliament. The internal order is to give full throttle in the remaining hours. The far right distributes a letter written in Galician to households, and their leader travels around Galicia telling people that they can address him in his native language because his grandmother from Orense speaks it with him.

Feijóo and the popular candidate Alfonso Rueda have also multiplied their messages, insisting on the idea that anything other than the concentration of votes in the PP favors nationalism. Its recipients are both Vox and possible PSOE voters who do not agree to an alliance between this formation and the BNG. The ETA temptation was stoked this Thursday by former President Mariano Rajoy in Alfoz (Lugo): “Pontón presents itself to voters like Teresa of Calcutta, but is on a list with ERC and Bildu.” [a las europeas]which is simply ETA.” The BNG candidate completely ignores the attacks and repeats: “We will continue our idea campaign, and do so positively.”

Wednesday's debate on TVE, in which Pontón and the socialist José Ramón Gómez Besteiro presented their common positions in the absence of Rueda, was the most watched program of the evening in Galicia, with 17.4%, almost equal to the previous week on TVG, in the the popular candidate took part. “It has become clear that there will be changes and that the page will be turned on 15 years of absent PP,” concluded Besteiro, who continues to receive every day endless members of the central executive , this Thursday with Pedro Sánchez himself at the helm. From A Coruña, the President of the Government called on the Galicians who voted for him on 23-J to vote for the PSOE again this Sunday: “Voting for the PSOE is a double insurance because there will certainly be changes and because these Changes will also be like that.” be sure.â€

Also trying to reverse the poor forecasts of the polls, Yolanda Díaz supported her candidate Marta Lois, insisting that without Sumar there could be no alternative. He cited the events in the parliamentary elections as an example. “It took a while in La Moncloa, but they realized that he would not arrive with Pedro Sánchez,” he said. “Without Sumar, Feijóo would be president today.”
