Antena 3 presents its new fictional bet, the series Cristo y Rey, created by Daniel Écija. On La 1, this week’s episode of Cuéntame features the Alcántaras after the kidnapping and murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco. With the premiere of Curiosity, La 2 is dedicated to bringing science closer to viewers. In the cinema sector, TCM broadcasts a masterpiece by Fernando Fernán-Gómez, “The Journey to Nowhere”, and Movistar Clásicos offers the memorable “Merry Christmas”, Mr. Lawrence, by Nagisha Oshima.
“The Journey to Nowhere”
7:35 p.m., TCM
The Journey to Nowhere, Jose Luis Alcaine
Spain, 1986 (134 minutes). Director: Fernando Fernán-Gómez. Performers: Fernando Fernán-Gómez, José Sacristán, Juan Diego.
Fernán-Gómez’s work as a director may not have been adequately considered by his work as an actor. Although he has made more than one mediocre film, he is the author of two landmarks of Spanish cinema: “The Strange Journey” and “The World Follows”. In addition, he filmed the unforgettable diptych that surrounds La vida por siempre and La vida. With these works alone, many directors would sign their withdrawal. “Journey to Nowhere” is a heartfelt tribute to the comedians of old; also a bitter portrait of defeat and a song to a vanished world in which dreams, love of work and commitment to solidarity shaped the course of life.
“Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence”
10 p.m., Movistar Classics
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. United Kingdom-Japan, 1983 (120 minutes). Director: Nagisha Oshima. Cast: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tom Conti, David Bowie.
Today, very few fans seem to remember the great Nagisha Oshima, the author of such legendary masterpieces as “The Realm of the Senses”. Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence travels to 1942 to confront East and West in a Japanese concentration camp. A film that pours out incredible sensations, a beautiful film that engages prison guards and prisoners with the concepts of honor and revenge and, in addition, casts a vicious and subversive look at the established order, which includes an emotional story of homosexual love in a repressive military context.
“Curiosity,” a new look at science
10 p.m., La 2
The scientific foundations of everyday life are the focus of Curiosity, La 2’s new program that aims to make science accessible to all types of viewers. Across eight episodes, Marc Santandreu on location and Rocío Delgado on set will act as guides to learn how science is present throughout the human environment, exploring disciplines such as mathematics, physics, geology, architecture and chemistry. This first appointment will focus on the mathematical calculations that allow the construction of platforms in the middle of the sea or the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
Premiere of the series “Christ and the King”
10:45 p.m., antenna 3
Jaime Lorente and Belén Cuesta star in Cristo y Rey, the new fiction on Antena 3, created by Daniel Écija. Four decades later, the series revives the relationship between the tamer Ángel Cristo and the actress Bárbara Rey. The couple’s everyday life shaped the media agenda of Spanish society for years. The first episode of the series begins in Madrid in 1979 and shows the beginning of the couple’s relationship and the imminent announcement of their marriage.
“Cuéntame” is reminiscent of Miguel Ángel Blanco
10:45 p.m., 1
The Alcántaras live the countdown to the kidnapping and murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco in this week’s episode of Cuéntame, an episode dedicated to the youngest of the family, María. The drama that Spanish society is currently experiencing also includes the young woman who is concerned about her own fate: when, as an assistant doctor in the operating room, she has to accompany the operation of a patient in serious condition, she suffers a blockage in the middle of the operation .
