During the conclusion of the World Meeting “Validity of Chávez’s Bolivarian Thought”, held in this capital, the Nicaraguan President highlighted the vision and wisdom of the military and politician, defender of Latin American unity.
The head of state recounted how he met Chávez in Havana after being introduced to him by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and was surprised to hear him speak.
Ortega alluded to Chávez’s political clarity and revolutionary thinking and how that seed was planted in the Venezuelan people.
The Sandinista ruler pondered the role of the South American country’s armed forces, since that army would never defeat a legitimate government like the one that emerged with the victory of Chávez.
He conveyed to those present at the meeting the affection and love of the Nicaraguan people and assured them that Chávez would always be in their hearts.
“Chávez, like Fidel, we feel, they are part of our history, they are part of our lives,” he stressed.
Referring to the struggles waged by the Venezuelan people, he said his role was crucial in reversing the coup against Chávez and pushing President Nicolás Maduro forward despite attacks, blockades and assassination attempts by the United States.
Ortega arrived in Venezuela in the early hours of this Sunday to pay tribute to the eternal commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, on the tenth anniversary of his physical departure.
Upon arrival, he described the Venezuelan people as heroic and combative, and reiterated that staying in this country means “feeling the presence, the energy and the strength of Bolívar and Commander Chávez, who are still in the battle we are fighting , are present”.
He added that now the current Nicolás Maduro must raise the sword of Bolívar, that Chávez has entrusted it to him and that it is in the hands of the Bolivarian people who are traveling through Latin America and the Caribbean.
In this sense, the Sandinista leader assured that Bolívar’s sword is also in the hands of the Nicaraguans who “fight for sovereignty, the unity of our peoples, for independence against the onslaught of imperialism”.
“The enemy is the same who historically tried to subdue other peoples, he is the one who continues to attack, the one who continues to cause hard situations for our peoples, the blockades, the terrorist attacks,” he stressed.
