Media concentration affects democracy says Atilio Boron

The President of South Africa receives his counterpart from Tanzania

After recalling some passages of historic ties between the two nations, Ramaphosa expressed his confidence that the visit will further strengthen bilateral political and economic ties while enhancing the work of the BNC.

In this sense, he added, we must seize this opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation.

One of the main priorities of the BNC, the President reminded, is to increase trade and investment so that we can promote economic development to the mutual benefit of our two countries.

Therefore, he said, I am pleased to learn that various agreements and MOUs between our ministries are in various stages of negotiation and will soon be signed for further implementation.

Referring to the current African reality, Ramaphosa stated that “we have common aspirations for the social and economic development of our countries, we also have similar views on the security and economic development of our region and the continent.

Our engagement in regional, continental and global governance institutions reaffirms the need to silence guns across the continent and work together for peace, security and stability, Ramaphosa stressed.

In particular, he stressed, we must continue to mobilize other countries of the continent and international partners for a sustainable solution to the Western Sahara conflict, in line with the provisions of the 1991 ceasefire agreement.

The changing international political landscape requires that we align our positions and approaches to ensure our Africa’s voice continues to be strengthened on a global scale, he stressed.

The leaders’ program will be preceded by senior officials meetings on March 13 and 14 and the Binational Ministerial Commission of Senior Officials on March 15, 2023, according to President Ramaphosa’s office.

The visit will be accompanied by a business forum themed “Forging a New Deal between South Africa and Tanzania Towards High Levels of Trade and Investment” focusing on agriculture, agribusiness, oil and gas, mining and infrastructure development.

Tanzania is one of South Africa’s most important trading partners on the continent, which is manifested in the presence of more than 250 South African companies in various sectors in the country.
