According to the company, the president received 78.98 percent of the vote at last count, well ahead of his opponent Moise Katumbi, who is in second place with 14.27 percent.

In third place is Martin Fayulu, who has 4.23 percent of the vote, while the other 20 candidates have less than one percent of the vote.

Katumbi and the other four opposition candidates announced that they would not recognize the official results and called on the population to demonstrate on the country's streets over alleged electoral irregularities.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the second largest country on the African continent and has a total population of 100 million inhabitants, of which approximately 44 million had the right to vote to elect the president and his representatives in regional assemblies and local councils.

These elections are drawing global attention because the sub-Saharan country is the largest producer of copper in Africa and cobalt in the world, minerals that power the global economy and market system.
