The meeting took place at Miraflores Palace, the seat of government, where the President gave a vigorous handshake to Antonio Ecarri, the leader of that party, and other leaders of the opposition organization.
Maduro commented at a press conference last week that he would like to start a dialogue with Antonio Ecarri and the political forces he represents because he received “a very important vote” in Caracas and also won a very important group of mayors the country.
This meeting comes in the context of the dialogue proposed by the Head of State with all sectors of the Venezuelan opposition, which began last Friday with the Alianza Democrática coalition.
On November 26, a government delegation and the so-called Unitary Platform, which have been implicated in recent years of violence, signed an agreement in Mexico that will allow the country to recover just over $3 billion held in the international financial system.
The money will be invested in restoring sectors such as health, education and the electrical system, as well as compensating for damage caused by rainfall in several states.
The day before, the ruler ratified the readiness for dialogue with all sectors of Venezuela.
Speaking on national radio and television, the head of state said he firmly believes in dialogue as a form of understanding and in peace diplomacy.
He expressed that “we sympathize with Venezuela” because economic recovery is everyone’s task.
It is an ongoing dialogue, including with politicians, including, as he pointed out, with the extremist sections of the opposition, to which we have reached out.
Referring to the agreement signed in Mexico, he points out that it was discussed for months and signed in the presence of the Mexican government and the delegation of the Kingdom of Norway, which is acting as a facilitator for the dialogue.
I would like to say that through dialogue we were able to understand each other even with our most bitter enemies, he stressed.
