Gareth Pursehouse, 45, was given the maximum sentence for the brutal murder of 38-year-old Amie Harwick in her Hollywood Hills home in December 2023.
The Price is Right host Carey, 65, dated sex therapist Harwick for two years before the couple split in 2018, months after their engagement was announced.
Speaking to People, he said: “I can barely remember the guy's name – that's how much I've blocked him out of my life – but since the final sentencing it feels like we've all taken a breath and can it too.” finally move on.
“The whole process is now complete and there is nothing else to do and nothing to worry about.” … I'm just speaking for myself, it's been quite a burden.”

Four years after her death, Carey keeps Harwick close by keeping photos of her in his house and a photo of her in his dressing room that he looks at as he walks out the door on the way to set every day.
He said, “She's always with me.” Often I feel like I have to think about things, and it's almost as if I can hear her voice saying, “Well, really, it's because of this and that one. 'It's really nice, honestly.'
Carey previously said that he and Harwick shared a “love that can only be had once in a lifetime.”
In September, Pursehouse was convicted of first-degree murder for killing his ex-girlfriend Harwick after stalking her for 10 years following a bad breakup.
Harwick was with her killer, Pursehouse, until 2011, when they separated and she obtained a protection order against him, telling friends she was afraid of him.
Prosecutors said he broke into Harwick's Hollywood Hills home in February 2020 and waited about four hours for her to return to “surprise” her while carrying a syringe containing a “lethal” dose of nicotine.
The former Playboy model was found unconscious after falling from a third floor balcony of her home.
An autopsy report found that Harwick, a sex therapist, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and torso resulting from a fall following an altercation.

Carey was subpoenaed to testify in the murder trial after exchanging text messages with Harwick two days before her death.
The ruling also stipulates that Pursehouse will never be granted parole during his incarceration, which begins immediately in a California state prison.
This is the maximum amount allowed after Gavin Newsom stopped executions.
Although the star was not present at Wednesday's sentencing, Carey previously spoke about Harwick's murder in an interview with 48 Hours in 2022.
There he shared the last text exchange he had with his ex two days before her murder, revealing that she had been worried about Pursehouse throughout their relationship.
“When I heard she was murdered, I immediately thought, 'It must be this guy,'” the former “Whose Line Is It Anyway” host said at the time.
“I got a text from her [two days before]“I would like to come and talk to you,” Carey continued. “I said, ‘Yeah, I’d like to do that. I love you.”
When 48 Hours correspondent Erin Moriarty asked if he was “sad” that he “never got that chance,” the comedian burst into tears.
“I never understood it,” he said. “I never had the chance.”
At one point, the interview emphasized to Carey that Harwick loved him, to which he replied, “That's the great comfort I get from the fact that she loved me… And I'm glad I was able to convey that message to her before she died.” '
“I hope you are lucky enough to have someone in your life who loves as much as you do,” Carey said on Twitter in February upon learning of her death.
Harwick was a well-known Hollywood marriage and sex therapist. She appeared on television and radio shows and wrote a book called “The New Sex Bible for Women.”
At the sentencing, Harwick's family and friends spoke about how deeply they were affected by the murder, which prosecutors said was premeditated.
Carey previously said that he and Harwick shared a “love that can only be had once in a lifetime.”
Tom Harwick, father of the marriage and sex counselor, said: “My name is Tom Harwick and I am the forever grieving father of my very late daughter Amie.”
“For fear that I will forget them, I will read the following words from a newspaper, but you can be sure that these words are recited from the depths of my heart.”
“I am absolutely grateful for the service you provided to me and my family during this terrible ordeal,” he continued, adding, “Justice was served for Amie.”
