Outgoing Harvard President Claudine Gay will retain an annual salary of about $900,000 from the university despite being forced to resign amid a plagiarism scandal.
Gay, 53, resigned Tuesday after months of questions about her leadership.
She remains a member of the university staff and returns to teaching in the Faculty of Political Science, maintaining a similar salary.
Gay only started the job on July 1 and her exact salary has yet to be disclosed on tax forms. Her predecessor, Lawrence S. Bacow, earned more than $1.3 million in the 2021 calendar year, The Crimson reported in May.
During the same period, Gay – then dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences – earned $879,079, up from $824,068 in 2020.
Gay will now return to a position in the political science department and maintain a salary at the same level as during her term as president, the New York Post reported.
