While we just learned that full Discord integration will be a reality on PS5 in March 2023 with the console’s firmware 7.00, Sony just rolled out the latest version of the console’s software this Thursday 12th January 2023.

From the height of his gigabyte, PS5 firmware version 6.50 is already available for download. Be careful though, you still need to agree to the updated Terms of Service after installing the update. Besides that, what’s new in this firmware version?

Of course, there are the usual “overall system performance improvements”. Sony doesn’t go into detail here either, which is why we have to rely on the manufacturer’s information for these “improvements”. But what interests us today is that second line in the update’s patch note.

The PS5 is getting ready to welcome the DualSense Edge with its latest software update

In fact, we can read there that version 6.50 of the firmware is integrated full DualSense Edge support. For the uninitiated, this “high-performance” controller was unveiled by Sony in August 2022 and was intended to compete head-to-head with Microsoft’s Xbox Elite.

Because of this, personalization is obviously at the heart of the experience. With it, Players can switch sticks and will be able to modify the controls to assign a specific sensitivity to the triggers and joysticks. Buttons on the back will also be present (fully customizable here again). It will also be possible to configure different profiles and switch between them with a button. Last but not least, Gamers can adjust the vibration intensity of the haptic feedback to their liking.

As a reminder, the DualSense Edge will be available from January 26, 2023 and will require a high-end controller, the bill will be quite high. However, the device costs the trifle of 240 euros! A rather high price, especially if we compare it to the Xbox Elite Series controller and its €179.99. But when you love, you don’t count, do you?
