Like other Middle Eastern airlines, Qatar Airways also hosts crew recruitment events around the world. This week in particular, the company is hiring a significant number of new employees from India to support its global operations.
Given the dynamism of the Gulf States, most of the labor market is imported from other countries, particularly those at the bottom of the hierarchy. Most of the workers are from other Asian countries like India, Pakistan, the Philippines and others. They leave their countries in search of better living conditions in the Middle East.
This context was made clear during the recent recruitment fair held at the Hilton Mumbai Hotel which provided vacancies for a variety of positions at the Qatari airline and its subsidiaries. However, what perhaps no one expected was the amount of people looking for an opportunity, which led to chaos.

Videos posted on social media (in this publication) show a bit of the event, with endless queues outside the hotel door turning into great confusion and chaos after the event organizers decided to limit the number of people and the others gone.
Obviously this frustrated a lot of people as people traveled from near and far to attend this event. As a result, an organized process turned into an agglomeration with protests and “pushpush”. In the end, the protests were futile, which passed peacefully as not everyone managed to hand in their CVs, Indian media reported.
