The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) announced a commemorative issue dedicated to the national hero of Cuba and one of the most important Latin American writers of 19th-century Spanish literature, José Martí.
«Martí in his universe. An anthology,” explains the language authority on its website, was also prepared by members of the Association of Spanish Language Academies (Asale) and includes all of Martí’s poems, as well as prose texts – articles, essays, speeches – which take into account the overall size of the author.
Texts by Nobel Prize winners Juan Ramón Jiménez and Gabriela Mistral or the greatest exponent of modernism, Rubén Darío, as well as numerous academics such as Guillermo Díaz-Plaja (Royal Spanish Academy) and Roberto Fernández Retamar, Roberto Méndez Martínez, Sergio O. Valdés Bernal and Marlen A. Dominguez (Cuban Academy of Language).
Studies on Martí and his work as well as a glossary and an index of names also complete the edition.
The collection of commemorative editions of the RAE and the Asale aims to recover emblematic titles of Spanish literature and their publication is associated with celebrations related to the works themselves or their authors.
