The Red Wings will improve, promises one of their players

Despite being eliminated from the playoffs for the seventh consecutive year, the Detroit Red Wings are not giving up and expect much better next season.

Over the past summer, their general manager Steve Yzerman has been very active in bringing on proven talent, most notably David Perron, Ben Chiarot and Andrew Copp. However, the standings fell short of the organization’s expectations as the Wings finished 12th in the National Hockey League Eastern Conference with a record under.500.

Will Yzerman be tempted to make significant changes to the existing staff? According to Copp, there isn’t necessarily a need to go in that direction and transform everything. There will be more satisfying times for the club very soon, he predicted to detroithockeynow.com.

“I really think we’re going in the right direction. I like that the core of the team has been strengthened. During the campaign we already had three significant player signings [Dylan Larkin, Olli Maatta et Jake Walman], which tells us a bit more about this group. Everyone is excited about it. Then it will be a matter of adding some new faces to freshen up our formation and benefit from more attacks.

The former Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers, who started their last regular season in better spirits than 2022, believe in the Wings’ potential despite stiff competition in the Atlantic Division.

“I think everyone has made progress, maybe not as far as we would like. However, he appreciated that it was the atmosphere and the team culture in which we had improved. Obviously there has been an increase in points and specific aspects on the ice. The next step is ahead of us.”

Copp underwent abdominal surgery and missed all of pre-camp and exhibition games ahead of the 2022–2023 season. He had 42 points, including nine goals, in 82 games.
