A year late due to corona, the results of the latest PISA study will be presented on Tuesday. For the study, a sample of around 9,500 15- and 16-year-old students from around 350 schools in Austria was selected in spring 2022, who had to solve tasks in the categories of mathematics, reading, natural sciences and – for the first time – financial literacy. The main theme of the tests in this round of PISA was mathematics.

The study was postponed for a year due to corona. This also means that students’ skills after the corona pandemic can be compared with the races collected before the pandemic. In the latest PISA study in 2018, young Austrians were close to the OECD average in reading (the main testing area at the time) and natural sciences, and slightly above in mathematics. The top countries have consistently been in Asia; the European champion was Estonia. This time, a total of more than 80 countries and 690,000 students participated in the surveys.
