La 1 is committed to the return of Cine de barrio, which will broadcast a special episode of the San Sebastián Festival with Inés Ballester as presenter. The public chain also offers weekly report delivery focused on the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms. The theme night on La 2, in turn, comes with two documentaries that focus on environmental crimes. The cinema is represented by two unusual films: “Chords and Disagreements”, in which Woody Allen pays tribute to the great Django Reinhardt, and “The Ice Storm” by Maestro Ang Lee, a sinuous drama about the dark corners of a family.
“Neighborhood Cinema” returns, with Inés Ballester
7 p.m., 1
Inés Ballester returns to direct Cine de barrio, a space she previously presented with Carmen Sevilla. The program returns to La 1 with an episode broadcast from San Sebastián and includes the presence of three guests, the actor Mario Pardo and the performers of Cuéntame como paso Pablo Rivero and Irene Visedo. The film airing this week is “I’m Made a Kid,” starring Paco Martínez Soria.
“Agreements and Disagreements”
20.05, Movistar Drama
Sweet and Lowdow. USA, 1999 (95 minutes). Director: Woody Allen. Cast: Sean Penn, Samantha Morton.
Woody Allen pays tribute to the figure of Django Reinhardt, the guitarist who revolutionized jazz in the 1930s. And he does this with one of his darkest films, with the advantage of a protagonist in whom the viewer finds it difficult to empathize, an arrogant and eccentric person, an unrepentant Reinhardt fan who is just as sensitive on stage as he is off the egotistical It . “Chords and Disagreements” presents itself as a very dark comedy that also wants to be a reflection of the misery of a society in the midst of a whirlwind of emotions.
AI in the classrooms, in the “Weekly Report”
9:30 p.m., 1
Opening today’s weekly report, “AI, the Classroom Revolution,” focuses on the growth of artificial intelligence and its application in education. Ana Blanco, host of the show, will speak live with lawyer Miriam del Río about the dangers of using AI. Afterwards, San Sebastián, an exceptional cinema, travels to the film competition, which concludes tomorrow, to analyze the preferences of the audience and the impact of the Hollywood screenwriters’ strike.
“The Ice Storm”
10:30 p.m., Sundance
The ice storm. USA, 1997 (112 minutes). Director: Ang Lee. Cast: Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Christina Ricci, Tobey Maguire.
Ice Storm is one of the great Ang Lee’s creative highlights. A drama of unusual density that dissects the hidden interiors of a seemingly perfect American family, a group of the living dead that hides beneath its image of stability a slab of emotional emptiness. Lee relies on photography in icy tones to create a suffocating and millimeter-perfect mise-en-scène that captures the characters and reveals their voluptuous edges.
Environmental crime, in “The Theme Evening”
11:45 p.m., La 2
Two documentaries address the topic of environmental crime as a theme evening. The Ivory King portrays Samuel Jefwa and his brother Nicholas, who are considered the largest ivory traders in the world. Kenyan authorities and Interpol’s environmental division are searching for them for trafficking in elephant and rhino tusks and for organized crime. Later, “The Destroyer of the Forest” turns to Sahul Hameed, the leader of a criminal network that traffics in red sandalwood, an endangered forest that has been wanted by Interpol for seven years.
