The Zurbarán Institute will reopen its doors at Atresplayer. The digital platform Atresmedia presents on July 5th a new face with which it wants to make a revolution according to its slogan and shows the return of the mythical 2000s series “Physics or Chemistry” after already having “A Step Forward” or ” Paco’s” had brought back men. With a new logo and a new user interface, the company wants to start 30 projects in the coming months.
Atresmedia has also announced the launch of a new subscription plan from and to sharing. At a time when other platforms like Netflix have decided to end shared accounts, Atresmedia decides to “swim against the tide” because “it has been shown that in Spain we like to share beyond price”, according to José Antonio Antón , Content Director of Atresmedia, assured this Monday. The family plan, as they call it, is said to cost €7.99 per month (€79.99 per year) and can be used by up to three users at the same time, regardless of their location. This subscription offers two benefits: higher image quality (4K resolution) and the ability to download the content to watch without an internet connection. This new package will coexist with the current subscription, the price of which does not change (4.99 euros per month or 49.99 euros per year), but which will have an announcement at the beginning of each ad and with the content that the platform broadcasts publicly contains.

The secret to staying ahead – they have over 500,000 subscribers – is to make local products, and this was repeated ad nauseum by Antón and Emilio Sánchez Zaballos, directors of Atresplayer, at last Monday’s press conference in Madrid. “We offer Spaniards living abroad the opportunity to learn about the stories that are happening here,” said Sánchez Zaballos. From 2013 when they launched the lounge mode until 2019 when the Atresplayer Premium platform was born, until today the company has established itself in Spain and managed to “get along with the international giants”.
In this sense, from July 5th, ten new online channels will be available to the Atresplayer audience: five of them will be themed and the other five will be responsive to a specific program. Clásicos Atresplayer is born where episodes of mythical Spanish series like El internado or Los hombres de Paco are repeated; Multicine Atresplayer with films for television; Comedy Atresplayer, with the company’s most successful sitcoms such as Allí abajo or Con el culo al aire; Restless Minds with documentaries and documentary series, and Kidz with content for children.
The followers of Aquí no hay quien viva are lucky: Atresmedia will offer them a channel where they will repeat the adventures of the residents of Calle Desengaño 21, 24 hours a day. Likewise those who still laugh at the monologues of El Club de la Comedia, who enjoy interviews with celebrities in El Homiguero or who identify with the cases of Equipo de Investigación. These are the other four thematic channels, accompanied by the so-called Guest Channel, a section whose content varies each month depending on the news and commercial strategy, as confirmed by the representatives.
In addition to all these changes, Atresplayer changes its logo and improves the accessibility of its catalog with a change in its interface that brings it closer to platforms of the likes of Netflix or HBO Max. The aim is to make the user experience easier.
new releases
In addition to the well-known titles “La Ruta”, “Camilo Superstar” or “Beguinas” they have also announced their next original releases. Some publications can be accessed by any user as the group has now opened the first chapters of their series. They haven’t confirmed that Los protegidos: el regreso or UPA Next will have any continuity, but there’s a good chance it will. Currently, only the release date of Las Noches de Tefía (June 25) and the adaptation of the book by Noemí Casquet Zorras (July 16) are known.

After the fire that devastated the Zurbarán more than 10 years ago, the institute reopens its doors and has to create a special class to absorb the surplus of students from other public, private and subsidized centers. “It keeps the essence of FoQ but is brought to the present with contemporary stories,” explained Sánchez Zaballos. The director of the platform also explained that while they’d like to have some of the characters from the original cast, they’re still working on the script and haven’t finished one yet.

the shadow of the earth
Among the literary adaptations that the group will undertake this year, this novel by Elvira Míngez stands out. In 1896, Villaveza del Agua is a poor town in the province of Zamora. Garibalda, a widow and sick woman, rules the community with an iron fist. Opposite is Atilana, his eternal rival, who relentlessly strives for power. The struggle of these two women will draw everyone to it, including their children.
