Suffering from terminal cancer, she asked her followers to listen and share her song “Dance You Outta My Head” as often as possible because proceeds from streaming would benefit her 7-year-old son, causing a viral trend on TikTok triggered. Cat Janice, an American singer-songwriter who described her illness on social media, died aged just 31.
In 2022, she was diagnosed with sarcoma: while undergoing chemotherapy, she worked on an album entitled “Modern Medicine”, which also described the disease, the difficulties and moments of discouragement related to the treatments. However, the cancer had returned and even reached her lungs, and by January Janice realized that nothing more could be done.
This is how the singer dedicated her last song, “Dance You Outta My Head” to her son: released on January 19th, it reached number one on the viral songs chart on TikTok Billboard Top 50 and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot charts Dance/ Electronica, with over 13 million streams on Spotify. «I changed the rights to my songs in favor of my son so that I could leave something to him. “I don’t have much,” he wrote on TikTok on January 15, before releasing the song.
Her family shared the news of her death via Instagram: “We are forever grateful for the love shown to Catherine and our family over the last few months.” Cat has seen her music reach places she never imagined could have imagined, and rests in peace knowing that she will continue to care for her son through her music. This wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.”
