The Russian delegation arrived in Ethiopia for the ministerial meeting

Addis Ababa, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia’s Head of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, received today the Russian delegation that will take part in the VIII Ministerial Commission between the two nations starting tomorrow.

The meeting, dubbed the Ethiopia-Russia Joint Ministerial Commission, will focus, among other things, on how to improve bilateral cooperation in the fields of business, science and technology, the government communications service announced.

Last September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov; and Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen held a meeting where they agreed to hold the exchange before the end of 2022.

“The relationship between the two countries is historical and has remained alive to this day, especially in the areas of technical development, science, culture, diplomacy and education,” the statement said.

Russia supported Ethiopia against the invasion of Italy during the Battle of Adwa in 1896, and in 1935 the then Soviet Union was one of the few countries to resist the Italian occupation of our territory, he stressed.

Last Friday, Russia’s Deputy Minister for Digital Development, Communications and Media Maxim Parshin said that as part of efforts to strengthen ties with Ethiopia, cooperation in the areas of digitization and security of information networks will increase.

Just at a meeting with Molla, Parshin assured that the VIII Joint Ministerial Commission is an opportune time to draft strategies for e-government services, digital skills and other areas.
