The Russian general was deposed after reporting war troubles in Ukraine
A Russian general was removed from his post after telling his superiors about the situation of Russian troops on the front lines in Ukraine.
In a fourminute audio recording released Wednesday night (12), he said he was fired for complaining to his superiors about some difficulties the soldiers were facing.
Ivan Popov commanded Battalion 58 in Zaporizhia, a critical combat zone that is home to the largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine and Europe.
In addition to dealing with the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive, the Russians are also grappling with internal difficulties. In the past three weeks since the Wagner group rebelled against the Russian military, a key general has disappeared, one has died in a bombing raid and another has been fired.
According to the Wall Street Journal, at least 13 Russian officers have been arrested and questioned about possible riots since the head of the mercenary group tried to overthrow the army commander.
Nonetheless, the Ukrainian counteroffensive continues to encounter challenges. The Russians have occupied some regions for more than a year, digging miles of interconnected zigzag trenches, some reinforced with concrete or covered with wooden roofs and earth, making them difficult to locate with drones.
