The Sacred Fire by Gabrielle Destroismaisons

Fire is always “hot” and “dangerous” for Gabrielle Destroismaisons. In fact, things are burning brighter than ever for the 40-year-old singer, who is now back in the spotlight with a new reinterpretation of her hit. Etc and the musical review Our icons.

The pop anthem Et Cetera might have been released in 2000, but it hasn’t left our collective imagination or our airwaves. It has been brought back to the fore several times over the past year, including the film Lignes de Fide and the series La nuit ou Laurier Gaudreault s’awakened. In short, the song is enjoying a longevity far beyond its performer’s expectation.

“I can’t believe it,” laughs Gabrielle Destroismaisons.

“When I recorded “Et cetera” I knew that the song had potential, that it was something special. But it’s evident that its popularity has surpassed all my expectations; I still hear it regularly on the radio, people still talk to me about it. It’s something special! I’ve always said it: I’m a happy singer,” she adds.

In acoustic formula

The opportunity was too good to pass up: Gabrielle Destroismaisons took advantage of this momentum to return to the studio to record a new version of her biggest hit, this time without her usual tricks. This acoustic cover – guitar and vocals – was released on listening platforms earlier this month, expanding its presence there.

Because if his repertoire is present in our heads, his absence on Spotify and Apple Music will make him stand out in this world. The reason ? Gabrielle Destroismaisons does not have the master tapes of her three albums released between 2000 and 2004. These are required for online publication and reprinting of new copies of these works.

“I’ve tried and taken steps for years… to no avail. But I haven’t said my last word yet, I’m not about to give up. I don’t want to let these songs die, I think they have the right to continue to exist. That’s important to me,” she says.

Rediscover icons

Since Gabrielle Destroismaisons cannot be found on digital platforms, from Friday we can see her on the Assumption page with the musical review Our Icons.

Accompanied by Camélia Zaki, Alex Simpson and Nicolas Drolet, the singer will bring to life the greatest hits of artists who defined her era, whether their names are Céline Dion, David Bowie, Ginette Reno, Édith Piaf, Claude Léveillée or Robert Charlebois or again Alys Robi.

But Gabrielle Destroismaisons promises a show that goes beyond the series of disparate scenes and aims to evoke audiences’ feelings of nostalgia.

“There is a real narrative framework; We worked very hard to make a story out of it. I know people will follow us in there and sing along,” she promises.

Will the song Et cetera be included in the program of the evening? Gabrielle Destroismaisons sneers when asked this question.

“You have to watch the show to find out,” she laughs.

On good terms…
