The Sagrada Familia is postponing the end of the work

The construction authority of the Sagrada Familia has reported that the end of the work will be postponed to 2033 after the health crisis caused by the coronavirus and inflation changed the construction deadlines, which were expected before 2020 to 2026. Basilica sources told Europa Press. According to the deputy president of the construction committee, Esteve Camps, in an interview with Catalunya Cristiana, they are working with the aim of completing the Tower of Jesus Christ in 2026, the date on which the complex was previously expected to be completed due to the strike in the works of the pandemic, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death.

“Completing the tower in 2026 is a realistic target, provided there are no setbacks. “Work on the prototype of the cross is already underway,” temple sources said, adding that the 10-year period for completing the architectural complex is an estimate according to construction permits.

This is a calculation limited to the architectural work on the Gloria façade, since the sculptural part of it and the staircase on Calle Mallorca would be preserved later, for which there is no start date for the work. If completed in 2033, the Sagrada Familia would be completed 150 years after architect Antoni Gaudí commissioned the basilica project.
