The imposing building has stood in the heart of the village since 1908. However, a recent inspection revealed several issues, particularly with the forecourt, drainage and windows.

“It's $1.5 million for the exterior alone and we haven't touched the interior or the presbytery,” explains Bernard Lecomte, president of the Fabrique. There are a lot of renovations going on. Anyone who wants to buy the presbytery and the church is given two months. We will then open the envelopes to see if there is anything interesting.”

The decline in the number of community members was also a deciding factor.

“We have between 20 and 25 people practicing,” admits Mr. Lecomte. The income isn't there. We manage to pay for the heating, but it's not all bad. It is very moving because there are community members who have practiced from generation to generation. But they are resigned, they clearly see the situation and the decline of the church.”

La Fabrique has therefore resigned itself to putting the church up for sale. Mr. Lecomte assures that he is open to the projects of potential buyers.

“We have criteria in the sense that we certainly will not accept a project that does not respect the vocation at all, such as a strip bar,” says the president with a laugh. But as long as it remains a respectful project, there is no problem.”

The parish's activities will continue as long as the church is not sold. Discussions have already begun with other neighboring congregations about continuing services after the sale.
