With a 10-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, the San Jose Sharks joined a club that is not picked when it comes to mediocrity.
In fact, the California team (0-9-1) became the tenth team in National Hockey League (NHL) history to start a season with a streak of at least ten games without a win.

The Sharks joined, among others, the Atlanta Trashers (2002-2003), the Calgary Flames (1995-1996), the Detroit Red Wings (1975-1976), the Arizona Coyotes (2017-2018 and 2021-2022) and Minnesota North Stars (1973-1974).
Also note that San Jose had a similar start to the season back in 1995, posting an 0-7-4 performance in the first 11 games of the season before finally finding its first success in the 12th half of the season.
Sharks fans can take some comfort in the fact that their favorites still have to suffer a few more defeats before they reach the losing record for the start of the season. This dismal feat of arms belongs to the 1943-1944 New York Rangers, who had lost 15 straight games at the start of the regular calendar.
David Quinn’s team will face the Pittsburgh Penguins (3-6-0) on Saturday evening.
