The SAQ increases its prices

Your favorite bottle of wine might cost you more in November. The Société des alcools du Québec will increase the price of 1877 products as part of one of its two annual increases.

On average, you’ll pay $0.32 more for these bottles, a total increase of 0.7%. The increase was 1.1% in June, averaging $0.87 per bottle.

The average SAQ bottle will therefore have increased by $1.19 in 2023.

The SAQ just experienced its worst quarter in 10 years, with sales and profits falling.

Less wine was sold in 2022 than last year, a trend that is expected to continue in 2023.

The SAQ “will certainly not have record sales this year,” the company’s new boss said when he took office last month.

With a five-year term in office, Jacques Farcy takes control of the state-owned company and its nearly $4 billion in sales in a difficult environment.

“The alcohol [n’est] “Not on the priority list of people whose incomes are shrinking due to inflation,” he says.

The moderate increase in November is undoubtedly related to this. Among other things, there will be no price change for more than 40% of the products – 1,221 bottles.

For 87 products, the price even drops by an average of 0.46 US dollars.

This year, the price increase is accompanied by a small revolution: deposits on wine bottles.

From November 1st, all glass containers over 500 ml are worth 25 cents. However, we will not be able to bring our wine and spirits bottles into the branch, so depots will be set up for this.

The locations where this is possible will be specified in the branch. You can also view the ConsignAction map here.

A 10 cent return also applies to all drinks sold in aluminum containers of 100 milliliters to 2 liters, including ready-to-drink cans, an increasingly popular product on the SAQ.

The vast majority of these products – 211 for 85% of the total – will have their price reduced by an average of 11 cents to offset the down payment.
