EXCLUSIVE: Sony’s second trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has set an audience record, Deadline has learned, and is not only the most-watched Spider-Verse franchise trailer, but also the most-watched second trailer in the latest Marvel Movie in 24 hours and the most watched superhero movie trailer of the summer.
The new trailer has garnered 148.6 million views since its release yesterday, surpassing those of trailers for the upcoming superhero tentpoles Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (116.9M) and The Flash (81.6M) in the first 24 hours.
Recent Marvel films to trail behind Across the Spider-Verse in terms of views for a second trailer include Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (121.6 million), Thor: Love and Thunder (98.1 million), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (84.8 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (83.8 million).
As the first of two planned sequels to Sony’s Oscar-winning 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has grossed over $384 million worldwide, Across the Spider-Verse ties in with Brooklyn’s friendly, full-time neighborhood Spider-Man at. Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) as he reunites with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and encounters a team of Spider-People tasked with protecting the existence of the multiverse while he is catapulted through it. When the heroes clash over how to deal with a new threat, Miles faces the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson directed the picture based on the Marvel Comics from a screenplay by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham. Others voicing the sequel include Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opens June 2 against A24’s Past Lives, Blue Fox Entertainment’s Dramedy Rise, 20th’s Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman and Vertical’s sci-fi thriller Simulant. A third film in the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is slated to hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
