The Ottawa Senators started the local season well with a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday at the Canadian Tire Centre.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun scored his second goal on the power play of the first period after sending the puck to goaltender Carter Hart’s right corner with a one-timer.

The 5 against 4 game was the crux of this game. The Senators flashed the red light twice more in this game situation, thanks to captain Brady Tkachuk and guard Jake Sanderson. DJ Smith’s men finished the afternoon with 60% efficiency on the power play.
Vladimir Tarasenko and Claude Giroux each had two assists. The latter was also honored at the start of the game by the Senators with a silver stick for exceeding the 1,000-point mark in the National Hockey League.
The answer for the Flyers came from Travis Konecny, who has already moved the strings three times this year, and Cam York.
The Sens will be back in action on Sunday when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
