Maybe The Last of Us Part 1 PC version is a great game. Perhaps the developers of Naughty Dog have made a feat and managed to modernize both the graphics and the mechanics of this game. The title was first released on … PlayStation 3 in 2013. But it will never be possible to know.
Because this title, released in late March of this year after the end of the first season of the HBO television series of the same name, is one of the worst examples of this corrupt, even rotten culture. It consists of pouring millions of dollars into the PC gaming market while offering adaptations of console games whose quality doesn’t even deserve the label mediocre.
We – computer video game enthusiasts – didn’t ask for that much: just an adaptation of the original game with the graphics of the time, within two or three years of its initial release in 2013. Madness Zombies was already over by then, but players surely would have agreed to dive back into the game just to relive the adventures of Joel and Ellie that are so beloved by console gamers.
Instead, the public had to wait 10 years for PC to release not only the game’s sequel, but also two remastered versions on PlayStation, one on each generation of consoles Sony released since the first title.
And now we’re being offered this overly sloppy version with abysmal performance and decades-old gameplay mechanics, all while having the audacity to ask for $70. Oh, the graphics are definitely pretty, but who really wants to sacrifice everything on the altar of veracity, with a pixel orgy in Joel’s beard or those mushrooming zombies in ultra high definition?
Who wants to be told with a quick estimate that it will take more than an hour for the game to optimally define the graphics rendering process in order to improve the gaming experience, even when the details are lowered to their lowest level ? the faithful?
Who would like, for fun – because you have to laugh about it, so the thing is ridiculous and absurd – calculate the total size of the updates proposed since launch to improve the stability of the game and come to a result of almost 150 gigabytes, in addition to the 100 Gigabytes it took from the start to install everything?
However, it is possible to adapt a console game to a PC. And at Sony it’s even possible: the 2018 version of God of War, which was implemented last year, was great and smooth.
With the disaster of The Last of Us adding to the horror of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, does the folks at Naughty Dog still love what they do, or do they just want to do as much make as much money as possible before they destroy what little reputation they have left. Since it is a so-called AAA developer, that’s a shame.
