The Snow Society one of the 10 most watched non English language

Netflix announces a milestone for The Snow Society. JA Bayona's film, which was released on the platform on January 4th, is already among the 10 most watched non-English language films in the platform's history. With data up to last Sunday, January 14, the drama, which follows the survivors of the 1972 Andes plane crash, recorded 5.1 million equivalent views in the first 11 days available in the catalog.

The list records the data achieved by the titles in the first 91 days, giving the Spanish production another 80 days of scope to add more views and continue to climb. The Norwegian troll takes first place with 103 million equivalent views. Another Spanish hit, Through my window, is in fourth place with 61 million.

The views are equivalent because it is a number that does not translate to the millions of screens that saw the film. The Snow Society's 51 million means that Netflix users have consumed the required number of minutes to watch a movie that lasts 2 hours and 24 minutes 51 million times. Some saw the film three times, others only saw it for ten minutes. In addition, it refers to the number of screens and not the number of viewers, since in some cases when a film or series is playing, more than one person can watch behind that screen. The reach of Bayona's new work is greater than the 51 million viewers shown in the Netflix data.

The film still has a chance of being nominated for an Oscar in the Best International Film category and is also being shown in cinemas in Spain. Although Netflix does not provide box office data to Comscore, the private company that measures cinema audiences, it is required by law to provide it to the Culture Ministry. The website of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) shows that The Snow Society, which hit theaters on December 15, amassed a collection of 1,640,801.41 euros and 240,467 viewers in its first days. This figure still needs to be updated, but in the first two weeks of exhibition the film has so far managed to reach 11th place among the most watched Spanish films in cinemas in 2023. “Berlin”, close to the top 10 in history

Berlin also performs convincingly in the series sector, explains Netflix in the publication of its key figures. The prequel to Money Heist, starring Pedro Alonso, Tristán Ulloa and Michelle Jenner, among others, has topped the list of most-watched non-English language series for three weeks in a row.

It appeared in the catalog on December 29, 2023 and, as of January 14, 2023, its eight chapters have accumulated 42.3 million equivalent views. If you compare the weekly data with the list of English-language series, Berlin continues to be viewed more strongly, even for US blockbusters and British titles. With these numbers and such solid results, it is also on the verge of becoming one of the most watched non-English language series in the history of the platform, a ranking that concludes the third season of French Lupine with 50 million equivalent views.
